Years ago, Michael Astor was the Rio de Janeiro correspondent for the Associated Press and Jack Chang was the South America correspondent for McClatchy. We covered Rio's Carnaval together last year and this year we're both back in the cold inhospitable U.S.A. working as editors and wondering how did we get here.
